Technical textiles |
Technical textiles are extensively used by other consumer industries mainly for their unique functional and aesthetic properties. The wide range of technical textiles based on the application characteristics, need of end-user and product feature us segmented into 12 categories. These include Thermal Fabrics, Anti-Oxidants, Condiment Fabrics, Building Materials, Furniture and Related Products, Flooring, Heating and Air-conditioning fabrics, Electrical and Electronic Components, Plastics, Paper Products, Plastic Unions, Packaging and Cartridges, Automotive, Marine and Cosmetallic Products, Cosmetics, Textile Technology and Vehicles.
With all their uniqueness, all these textiles represent a very particular area of
technical textiles. However, the widely evolved fabric industry makes these textiles useful in most if not all applications. The most commonly used textiles are thermal fabrics, they account for a large percentage of the whole textiles production. Thermal fabrics the products based on fabric that hold heat or cold temperature and wick away the same without any difficulty. Hence, they have extensive use in industries that have high heat requirements. Thermal fabrics also efficiently resist moisture and reduce shrinking while processing. Recently in April 2021, the U.S. Berry Global Group, a nonwovens manufacturing company, increased manufacturing of nonwoven materials for products like hard surface disinfectant wipes in Europe.
On the other hand the non-thermal fabrics need to be treated with heat before using them in industrial applications. With this heat treatment, fabric’s durability is increased and it becomes more malleable. The rubber industrial belts and the plastic or rubber pulleys belts are the most widely used non-thermal textiles that are used in industrial applications.
The growth rate of industrial application of technical textiles largely depends on the fibers that are used in the fabrics. The fiber used in Technical textiles have different growth rates. Faster growing fibers are used in technical textiles while slower growing fibers are used in industries where growth rate is less. Technical textiles also use materials that have good chemical resistance. There are many other application fields of technical textiles. In manufacturing operations, such as commonly the application areas of technical textiles are extensive and complex, where the use of technical protective fabrics for special purpose it important.
