Electric Bicycles Market |
An electric bicycle is a motorised bicycle with an integrated electric motor that aids propulsion (e-bike, eBike, etc.). There are many various varieties of e-bikes available around the world, but they generally fall into two categories: pedelecs (bikes that assist the rider's pedal effort), and motorcycles with a throttle and moped-style characteristics. Both aren't electric motorcycles because the rider can still pedal them.
Electric Bicycles are classified based on the amount of power that its electric motor can produce and the control system, which determines when and how the motor's power is delivered. The classification of e-bikes is also problematic, as much of the definition is based on legal considerations regarding what constitutes a bicycle vs a moped or motorbike. As a result, how these e-bikes are classified varies widely between countries and local governments.
Over the projection period, weight reduction supported by Li-ion battery integration, cheap cost, wide availability, and minimum environmental implications are likely to be the primary factors driving industry growth. Increased urbanisation and worries about the environmental implications of automobiles in many worldwide economies are likely to boost market growth.
Electric bike technology has progressed rapidly in recent years, and you can now purchase almost any sort of motorised bike, from e-road bikes and e-MTBs to e-hybrids and e-gravel cycles. The amount of assistance the motor can provide and the speed at which it stops varies by country, but in general, the motor is limited to 250 watts of output and must shut out when your speed hits 25kph/15.5mph, with the exception of the United States, where it can work up to 20mph.
An electric bike's controller will normally feature between three and five levels of assistance. Depending on the characteristics of the bike's motor, these can provide anything from a mild push to enough of power for conquering severe off-road climbs. Some will also have a 'boost' button that may be used to raise the power output for brief bursts of more power. Many bikes have a walk-assist function that makes it easier to push when you're not riding.
