A novel drug delivery system is an innovative approach to drug delivery that overcomes the limitations of traditional drug delivery systems. Modern medicine cures a disease by precisely targeting the affected zone within a patient's body and delivering the drug to that location. A drug delivery system is a method of administering an optimum amount of the concerned drug to the patient in such a way that it reaches the'site of action' and begins working immediately. A novel drug delivery system seeks to eliminate all of the drawbacks associated with traditional drug delivery systems. There are numerous approaches that can be used to achieve novel drug delivery.
The effectiveness of novel drug delivery system in cancer therapy is another major factor driving the growth of the
novel drug delivery system market. For example, according to data published by the International Journal of Pharma Sciences and Research (IJPSR), approximately 9 million people died as a result of cancer in 2015, with estimates indicating that approximately 11.4 million people will die as a result of cancer by 2030. However, factors such as the patent cliff, patent expiry, and an increase in injury cases are impeding the growth of the global novel drug delivery systems market.
For more than two decades, researchers have recognised the potential benefits of nanotechnology in improving drug delivery and drug targeting. Improving delivery techniques to reduce toxicity and increase efficacy has the potential to provide significant benefits to patients while also opening up new markets for pharmaceutical and drug delivery companies. Other approaches to drug delivery focus on crossing specific physical barriers, such as the blood–brain barrier, to better target the drug and improve its effectiveness; or on finding alternative and acceptable routes for the delivery of protein drugs other than the gastrointestinal tract, where degradation can occur. Currently, novel drug delivery systems are widely used only for allopathic drugs, but they have limitations, so turning to safe, effective, and time-tested Ayurvedic herbal drug formulation would be a better option.
